Five themes. Top-five worldwide.

Our faculty publish in the Information Systems discipline's leading journals — and help steer those journals from senior editorial roles.

The IS department's research is organised around five themes that map cleanly onto the discipline's biggest open questions, plus a methods-and-policy spine. This page goes one level deeper than the homepage's research section: representative faculty per theme, editorial roles by journal, and a path to PhD supervision.

Why this matters

For prospective PhD students: the people who help decide what gets published in the discipline's leading venues are sitting next to you, reviewing your drafts. That's a significant advantage that doesn't show up in headline rankings.

Methods & policy

Rigorous, plural, applied.

The five themes share a methods-and-policy spine. We don't push one paradigm; we let the question pick the method, and we publish the work that engages with policy where the evidence justifies it.

  • methodsGrounded theory & theory building · Qualitative IS · System analysis & design
  • methodsQuantitative methods & econometrics of IS · Decision sciences
  • methodsField studies & ethnographic observation · Longitudinal case studies
  • policyIS policy at national and international level — papers that engage with regulators, not just researchers
Train as a researcher
